History

Founded in 1889 by Jeanne Lanvin, the house is one of the oldest Parisian haute couture houses still in operation. But it was the arrival of Alber Elbaz in 2001 that marked the most decisive turning point in its modern history: in fifteen years, this Israeli-Moroccan designer of extraordinary talent transformed Lanvin into one of the most coveted and emotional houses in the fashion world. His genius lay in reconciling the rigor of haute couture with a modern, sensual, and never rigid femininity—dresses that embraced the body rather than constrained it. The Spring-Summer 2008 collection, from which this dress comes, is considered one of the most accomplished of his reign: fluid silhouettes, noble materials, and those deliberately raw finishes at the armholes—a claimed aesthetic gesture, the signature of a designer who saw imperfection as a form of truth. Alber Elbaz left Lanvin in 2015. Since then, pieces from his era have become true collector's items, highly sought after by connoisseurs worldwide.

Spring-Summer 2008 – France (Paris, Lanvin S.A.) This dress comes from Lanvin's Spring-Summer 2008 collection, under the artistic direction of Alber Elbaz — one of the most acclaimed seasons of his reign (2001-2015). The "Fabriqué en France" label and the RIRI zipper at the back confirm the high-end Parisian production of this period, when Lanvin still maintained a fully in-house manufacturing process in its French workshops, according to haute couture standards.

Status

Excellent vintage condition. No flaws to report—no stains, snags, or discoloration. The silk is intact and the RIRI zipper works perfectly. Please note: the deliberately raw finishes at the armholes and neckline (slight fraying) are an intentional aesthetic choice by Alber Elbaz—an iconic signature of his era at Lanvin, and not a sign of wear. These details are an integral part of the garment's identity.
